ABSTRACT
Japanese investment in the Bajio region has gained significant importance in the last decade, stemming from Japanese foreign direct investment in Mexico, primarily in the automotive industry. From this perspective, analyzing persuasion as a cultural aspect is useful for understanding how people from both countries organize their ideas, support their arguments, and manage their relationships when seeking to convince or negotiate.
Mexico and Japan are clear examples of different cultural contexts that, despite the great geographical distance and their distinct historical trajectories, have largely strengthened their economic and diplomatic ties in recent years. Examining these contrasts allows us to understand not only differences in style but also the cultural values and principles that influence persuasive techniques. For this reason, this research focuses on comparing the persuasive styles of Mexico and Japan in order to identify their cultural foundations, the most representative communication strategies, and the consequences these have on the interaction processes between the two cultures. The methodology will be qualitative, employing semi-structured interviews with five people, both Mexican and Japanese. The selection of research subjects was based on convenience sampling. The results indicate that in the Mexican context, persuasion is often based on closeness with the interlocutor, spontaneity of discourse, and the importance of building trust through personal interaction and emotional expression. In contrast, in the Japanese context, communication styles focused on preserving collective harmony predominate, characterized by formality, indirect messages, and a strong emphasis on each participant's social role. The sample selection was also based on convenience sampling and is related to coherence, responsibility, and respect for the group structure. This research proposal aims to provide tools that foster more effective communication, more balanced intercultural relations, and a broader understanding of the diversity of influence and argumentation practices.
